► Who can call the Crime Victims Assistance Helpline?
Anyone located in the state of Georgia may call the toll-free number if they are in need of assistance as a victim of a violent crime.

► What are the hours of the Helpline?
The Helpline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

► What kind of help does the Helpline provide?
The Helpline can assist callers with finding the resources needed to recover as well as information about the Georgia Crime Victim Assistance Compensation Program. The Information Specialists who answer the calls have access to a statewide database of providers and can make referrals based on the assistance required.

► What is Crime Victims Compensation?
Crime Victims Compensation assists eligible victims of violent crimes with expenses that are incurred due to the victimization. Crime Victims Compensation is a payer of last resort and does not cover expenses that have been covered by a third party payer (insurance, sick leave, worker's compensation, etc.). The total award amount cannot exceed $25,000.

► Who is eligible for Victims Compensation?
Innocent victims who have been physically injured in a violent crime are eligible. They include, but are not limited, to victims of:
o Assault/Battery
o Homicide
o Child Abuse
o Sexual Assault
o Domestic/Family Violence
o DUI Crash Victims
o Vehicular Homicide
o Hit and Run
o Serious Injury by Vehicle


► Who pays for the service?
The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council contracts with Hodac to provide the Victim Assistance Helpline. The CJCC has provided this service since 1994.
